Founder // Operator // Chair
Max Fontana-Reval.
AIOD is run by someone who has carried a P&L, chaired the board, and shipped physical product — and who believes the next decade's most important AI question is not "how capable?" but "who controls it, and does it work when everything else fails?"
M. FONTANA-REVAL · FOUNDER · LONDON, UK
The short version
An operator's answer to an infrastructure problem.
Max became chief executive of a £10m+ UK design and manufacturing business at twenty-seven, leading more than a hundred staff within a multinational group. Years of building physical products to deadline — through supply shocks, power prices and the occasional flood — left a durable conviction: anything you truly depend on, you should own, understand and be able to run yourself.
He has spent the years since in other people's boardrooms as a portfolio chair and professionally qualified non-executive director — currently Non-Executive Chair of MW Equipment, a machinery manufacturer, and Advisory Chair of Unsigned Research, a systematic digital-asset trading firm — alongside running MAXFR, his board and strategy consultancy.
The technical thread runs equally deep: co-founder and CEO of BlockSmith Capital, a blockchain research and analytics venture, a member of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and a Philosophy & Economics graduate of the LSE — where he acquired the habit of asking what a claim would have to be true to mean. Cryptographic signatures, key custody and trust-minimised systems aren't a marketing aesthetic here; they're a background.
Founded in February 2023 within MAXFR, AIOD applies all of it to one thesis: intelligence is becoming infrastructure, and infrastructure you don't control is a liability. So we build the version you control — sealed, air-gapped, owned outright, and answering when nothing else does.

AIOD's clients are buying risk reduction as much as capability. Deployments are scoped, documented and attested the way a board would demand — because the founder has sat where your board sits, with the duties that seat carries.
Corporate structure
One company. Two practices.
AIOD is a trading name of MAXFR LTD.
Founded in February 2023 as an offshoot of the firm’s board-advisory work, AIOD operates as the offline-AI business unit of MAXFR LTD — registered in England and Wales, Company No. 1455659. MAXFR is the board, strategy and governance consultancy; AIOD builds the sovereign AI infrastructure those boards increasingly ask for. One legal entity, one standard of governance, applied to both. The founding build itself — a seasonal poetry engine called e.a.poem — has its own Origins page.
Operating principles
How AIOD behaves.
You own the machine
Weights, hardware, corpus, logs — handed over in full. No dependency on us survives that we haven't put in writing.
Measured numbers only
Benchmarks from your configuration, costs with the assumptions shown, capability limits stated before contract — not after.
Cable-out by default
Every demo and every handover ends disconnected. If a claim can't survive the unplugging, we don't make it.
Resilience is the point
Enterprise privacy work funds the field and civic deployments. Humanitarian missions get preferential terms, always.
Direct line
Talk to the founder, not a funnel.
Every engagement currently starts with Max. Bring the mission; expect straight answers.
