Where AIOD runs
Every sector here shares one of three problems.
Either the connection can't be trusted, the connection can't be guaranteed, or the connection can't exist at all. Offline LLM appliances solve all three — by removing the connection from the equation entirely.
SEC.01 // Privacy-critical
Legal
Legal professional privilege is one of the oldest confidentiality guarantees in law — and routing privileged material through a third-party AI service is, at minimum, a conversation your risk committee doesn't want to have. An air-gapped appliance ends the conversation: contract review, disclosure analysis, due-diligence summarisation and precedent search run on a machine inside your office, with retrieval over your own matter files.
Nothing transits. Nothing is retained by a vendor. Privilege survives because the documents never left.
SEC.02 // Privacy-critical
Healthcare
Patient data is the most regulated information most organisations will ever hold. An on-site appliance lets clinicians and administrators summarise records, draft correspondence and query clinical reference material without a single byte of patient-identifiable data leaving the building — simplifying the GDPR and information-governance picture dramatically, because there is no processor, no transfer, and no cloud.
For remote clinics, the same unit doubles as a clinical reference that works without connectivity. Decision support for professionals — never a replacement for clinical judgement.
SEC.03 // Privacy-critical + harvest-resistant
Finance & Digital Assets
For a fund, the prompt is the position. Ask a cloud model to stress a thesis, summarise a data room or screen a watchlist, and the strategy has been disclosed to a third party — retained on infrastructure you don't control, under terms you didn't write. An air-gapped appliance runs the same agentic research workflows — screening, filings analysis, backtest narration, deal-room review over MNPI — with retrieval over your own research corpus, on a machine inside your perimeter.
And there is a longer clock running. "Harvest now, decrypt later" is the working assumption of serious adversaries: encrypted traffic intercepted today becomes readable the day quantum hardware matures. Encryption in transit is a bet on mathematics and time. An air gap is not a bet — data that never crosses a wire cannot be harvested.
Digital-asset firms already live by this logic: keys in cold storage, signing ceremonies offline. AIOD extends the cold-wallet principle to the intelligence layer — research, agents and models held to the same standard as the keys. SEC.04 // Connectivity-denied + classified
Defence & Government
Classified environments can't use cloud AI by definition, and tactical environments can't rely on it by experience. Air-gapped Nemotron appliances bring summarisation, translation, drafting and doctrine search into SCIF-compatible and disconnected settings — on hardware that can be inspected, inventoried and accredited like any other secure asset.
Open model weights mean no opaque vendor dependency in the supply chain: what's on the machine can be audited, because you own it.
SEC.05 // Connectivity-denied
Maritime & Offshore
A vessel mid-ocean is the original offline environment. A Field unit in the bridge or engine room gives crews an engineer's reference that never sleeps: fault diagnosis against the ship's own manuals, medical guidance for the designated first-aider, SOLAS and MARPOL queries, passage-planning references — without burning satellite bandwidth or waiting on a shore office in another timezone.
Offshore platforms and wind-farm service vessels run the same playbook with site-specific corpora.
SEC.06 // Continuity-critical
Councils & Civil Resilience
Emergencies share an inconvenient habit: they take communications down first. A Civic node in the library or emergency operations centre keeps a town's collective knowledge alive when the network isn't — emergency medical reference, water and sanitation guidance, generator and infrastructure repair, the council's own flood plans and evacuation routes — served to any phone or laptop over local Wi-Fi.
In peacetime it's a free public AI resource with no data harvesting. In crisis, it's the calmest expert in the building. Read more in Offline AI for Emergency Response.
SEC.07 // Connectivity-denied
Energy & Mining
Remote sites combine the worst of both worlds: no dependable connectivity, and operational data too sensitive to ship out anyway. On-site appliances give crews instant access to equipment documentation, fault trees, permit-to-work procedures and safety protocols — and give site managers summarisation and reporting tools that keep production data inside the fence line.
Ruggedised units tolerate the dust, vibration and power conditions that kill ordinary IT.
SEC.08 // Infrastructure-denied
Humanitarian
Field hospitals, refugee response and disaster relief operate precisely where infrastructure has failed or never existed. A Field unit provides multilingual information services, clinical reference for medical teams, logistics support and protocol guidance — running on solar power, in the languages of the people being served, with no dependence on networks that aren't coming back soon.
AIOD partners with humanitarian organisations on preferential terms. This deployment class is why the company exists.
SEC.09 // Sovereignty
Individuals
Some people simply want a capable intelligence they own outright: sailors crossing oceans, off-grid households, smallholders, journalists protecting sources, and the quietly prepared who'd rather their family's reference library not depend on a subscription, a network, or anyone else's terms of service. We call the configuration the knowledge ark — a household-scale appliance loaded with medical, mechanical, agricultural and general reference knowledge.
It requires only electricity. It will answer your grandchildren's questions on the same terms it answers yours.
